2011 Intermediate Schools Rippa Tournament

Our Year 7 and 8’s recently participated in the Intermediate Schools Rippa Tournament at the North Harbour Stadium grounds.
We were a little apprehensive in approaching the day especially in knowing our first game up was against Northcross Intermediate.
But our nerves soon vanished when we realised we were ably competitive in matching up to the skills of and size of the opposition.
The Gulf Harbour team showed commendable tenacity and team spirit throughout the tournament.
They won their match against Mahurangi College and drew against Whangaparaoa College. Even though they lost their other two matches they certainly came off the field knowing they were up to the challenge.
A special ‘ups’ to the Year 6 girls, Holly Skinner, Camryn Birley and Sune Louw who joined the team for the day and to Liam Clark for his determined leadership of the team.
We would like to express our gratitude to the parents who helped out with transport.

A Great Cricket Session!

On Monday we had a great cricket session with Dave Evans. He taught us to throw and catch a cricket ball. Dave Evans was from Auckland Cricket and worked with the year 1 to 4s. We played a cool game where you try to hit cricket wickets as hard as you can and knock them down faster than the other team. We had a small game to finish it off.  Dave gave out bags with lots of cricket stuff in them like famous cricket player cards, dice cricket and posters. We even got some Milo!

Maybe you would like to play cricket this summer. Here’s the local club...

Auckland 'Basketball Tournament'

The Hibiscus Coast Under 13’s Girls Basketball Team was formed after four years of the Coast not having any girls teams at representative level.  None of the girls in this years’ squad have any prior representative level experience but all the girls worked very hard on their individual skills and as a team to improve.

Recently the team participated in the Auckland ‘Inter-City Basketball Tournament’, where 9 teams based from within the greater Auckland area participated in a fierce competition over seven weeks.  This tournament was a great build up in preparation for the BBNZ Age Group Premierships hosted at the North Shore Events Centre during the weekend of 5-7 August.

The girls commitment and team work came together to secure a hard fought 4th placing at the Prems, making themselves eligible to compete in the BBNZ Age Group Nationals Tournament”, being held in Napier over the week of October 7 - 21, 2011.

This is the first girls’ representative team from the Hibiscus Coast to make Nationals and the coaches and parents are very proud of the girls

Big congratulations to Leilani Schmidt-Geen, Mia Cunningham-South and Jazmin Tufuga for representing Gulf Harbour School as part of this outstanding achievement and best of luck to them all for the Nationals.

A Chilly Day at the Year 7 and 8 Netball Zone Day

2 Teams of Gulf Harbour Yr 7 & 8 students attended the 2011 Intermediate Netball Zone Day held by Carmel College at Netball North Harbour on Tuesday 16th August.

They braved the extreme weather to compete with other Intermediate Schools in the area and have some fun along the way.

Whilst our Year 7 team finished the day with a full team, our 'unlucky' Year 8 team had several injuries but fought back in the end to win their last game of the day, showing great team work with a few of our Yr 7 students who pitched in to help complete their team.

Again, we couldn't come to these events without some fantastic, supportive parents (thanks to Wendy, Lee, Cassandra & Caroline) and thanks to the students who attended for giving it their all in pretty tough conditions!

GHS Netballers Clean Up at Local Tournament!

Well done to our Year 4, 5 and 6 netball players who competed in the Whangaparaoa School Netball Tournament on Tuesday 9th August.
Our teams did superbly with our Year 4 'G Force' team and our Year 6 'Flames' team taking home the winner's trophies in their age groups.
The day was full of action, with each team playing 5 games each. A huge THANK YOU to the parents and coaches who came along to help, it was very much appreciated.
Check out the great footage below. More photos to come.

North Harbour Hockey Tournament

The Year 7/8 students went to Rosedale Park on Thursday the 23rd of June to compete in the North Harbour Hockey tournament.

We played four fun filled but challenging games against Albany Junior High, Takapuna Normal Intermediate, Murrays Bay Intermediate and Mahurangi College.

Throughout the day we worked hard to improve our passing which helped us to get the ball into the other teams striking circle.

Our team showed great sportsmanship by supporting and cheering on other teams.

We would like to thank all of the parent helpers that supported us at this event, you made this day possible.
